There’s a lot to consider when choosing your teacher business name. After all, this is the name that will represent YOU! If your goal is to launch a teacher blog or start selling on Teachers Pay Teachers, it’s SO important to have a business mentality from the get-go.

And it all starts with your brand name! I totally understand this can be a difficult and overwhelming decision because I was once in your shoes. But, that’s why I’m here to help. Below are my tips for choosing a teacher business name you can be extremely proud of!

Don’t Be Too Generic

There are thousands of teachers building their own brand. You want to stand out and have a catchy name that people will remember!

When I first started brainstorming my name, I knew I wanted to somehow incorporate my love of travel. So, I started searching to see if “traveling teacher”, “teacher travels” and other similar handles were available on Instagram.

I was incredibly bummed when every name I tried was already taken. Looking back, I’m SO GRATEFUL those generic names weren’t available because “Travelicious Teacher” has such a nice ring to it – if I do say so myself! 🙂

Things to Avoid Using in Your Teacher Business Name

Life and teaching are so unpredictable! Here are the things you should avoid when picking your teacher business name, so you can steer clear of having to rebrand in the future.

1. THE GRADE YOU TEACH

I’ve taught 1st grade all seven years of my teaching career. However, that’s not the case for most teachers, and chances are you’ll switch grades at some point.

2. YOUR LAST NAME

What’s your relationship status? If you’re a female and you’re not married, your last name will most likely change someday. And that, my friend, will put you in quite the branding predicament!

3. WHERE YOU LIVE

Are you starting to sense a pattern? Don’t add elements to your teacher business name that could possibly change someday. Life’s crazy, and you truly never know where you’ll end up.

4. NUMBERS & SPECIAL CHARACTERS

^ That’s not a good look and so hard to search for! This isn’t a personal Instagram account. You’re building a teacher brand! Your name should be clear and concise, so it can be used for your blog, TpT and all social media platforms.

Incorporate Your Passions

Do you teach high school history? Are you a total book worm? Is STEM your thing? Are you passionate about picture books? Do you teach special education? Figure out a way to integrate what you LOVE into your name.

I absolutely love to travel and incorporate culture into my classroom. We take virtual field trips to different countries. I teach my students about other cultures. We greet each other in different languages. I create multicultural resources in my TpT shop. Travel is a part of my brand name because it’s something I’m deeply passionate about – both in and out of the classroom.

Start Brainstorming

Here are some keywords that are currently #basic! Start brainstorming words you could add before or after to make your teacher business name different and unique to you.

  • teacher
  • teaching
  • teach
  • classroom
  • class
  • crew
  • learning
  • learners
  • education
  • educator
  • educating
  • littles
  • kids
  • primary
  • elementary
  • middle
  • secondary

You can also head over to Instagram and browse teacher hashtags such as #teacherlife or #teachersofinstagram for inspiration. The magic word there is inspiration. No one likes a copycat!

If you think of a name that doesn’t include any of the keywords above – more power to ya! You’re already standing out above the crowd.

Be Patient

Your teacher brand name might not come to you immediately, and that’s okay! I racked my brain for weeks (maybe even months) trying to think of the perfect name, and then one day it just came to me.

If you feel stuck, take a step back and be patient. It may randomly come to you on a walk or when you’re shopping at the teacher store. You don’t need to have it all figured out this very second!

Final Steps

Once you ultimately decide on your teacher business name, make sure you snag it on ALL social media platforms as well as Teachers Pay Teachers. You’ll also want to create a logo, and if you plan to start a teacher blog – go purchase the domain!

  1. Thank you, Larissa! I really appreciate your article! It was really helpful and a good read. I have read a lot of articles on the same topic but yours was the first one that listed general keywords for considering a name. Your article has a lot of great, useful ideas that I did not find in other articles. Thank you for taking your time to write and publish this!
